23-Year-Old Olabisi Onabanjo University Student Arrested in Christiana Idowu Case
The Lagos State Police Command has identified the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Christiana Idowu, a student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared this information on Thursday via his personal X.com account.
The suspect, Adeleye Ayomide, is a 200-level student at Olabisi Onabanjo University.
Hundeyin stated, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye was handed over to the Lagos Police by the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army. The handover occurred today, September 5, 2024, around 2:00 PM. The investigation is ongoing.”
Ayomide was apprehended on August 3, 2024, after intelligence operatives traced his phone. He allegedly sent pictures of Christiana while she was held captive to her parents and demanded a ransom of N1,500,000.
Christiana’s family managed to raise N350,000, which they transferred to a betting account as directed by the kidnappers.
Despite complying with additional demands, including providing their bank statement on August 23, communication with the abductors stopped.
Further investigations uncovered a link between Christiana and the suspect, who reportedly used the ransom money to withdraw funds into his Wema Bank account.
Earlier reports from WUZUPNIGERIA indicated that a deeper investigation revealed a close relationship between Christiana and the suspect, evidenced by their social media interactions.
This relationship, along with the financial transactions, helped authorities trace the suspect’s cell phone, leading them to his parents’ residence in Ikorodu.
Additionally, reports suggest that two other women connected to the suspect, including his ex-girlfriend and biological sister, died under similar circumstances in 2018 and 2020.
