Continued Protest Planned for August 5, 2024, with Warning to Business Owners in Jos
On August 4, 2024, a group of Nigerians assembled at the Old Airport Roundabout in Jos, where church services were held of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance. A warning has been sent to various people in various communities that their protest will continue on August 5, Monday, and that everyone should join, or else shut down their business activities.
Some people spoke to a Daily Trust reporter. A warning was given on August 4, 2024. Their actions are to prevent any damage to properties and also to avoid violence. They added, “We will call out others to join us and to express their problems, dissatisfaction, and whatever issues they are facing. This is the medium we can use to air our pain and voice to the government.”
Protesters are seen with several materials such as placards, flags, and others. They are both young and adults, moving from street to street, loudly saying, “No business on Monday, you people should come out for the protest.”
As of yesterday, August 4, the president made a broadcast to the public stating the following:
Tinubu listed out the return of the fuel subsidy, saying even though the decision to remove the fuel subsidy was painful, it was necessary because it had constituted a noose around the economic “jugular of our nation and impeded our economic development and progress.”
“I, therefore, took the painful yet necessary decision to remove fuel subsidies and abolish multiple foreign exchange systems which had constituted a noose around the economic jugular of our nation and impeded our economic development and progress,” he said.
However, the indigenes of Jos have been having peaceful protests without any interference from hoodlums and others.
