Israeli Forces Eliminate Two Gunmen Involved in Deadly Al-Funduq Attack

In a counter-terrorism operation near the West Bank city of Jenin, Israeli forces eliminated two gunmen involved in the deadly January 6th attack in the village of al-Funduq.

The operation, which involved Duvdevan commando units, Shin Bet agents, and other soldiers, saw a four-hour firefight in Wadi Burqin. The “pressure cooker” tactic, involving a gradual escalation of fire, was employed to flush out the suspects.

Qutaiba al-Shalabi and Mohammed Nazal, confirmed by Hamas as perpetrators of the al-Funduq attack, were killed in the exchange of fire. One IDF soldier sustained moderate injuries.

While Hamas claimed the two gunmen as members of their organization, the IDF identified them as members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

The January 6th attack in al-Funduq tragically claimed the lives of three Israelis: off-duty police officer Master Sgt. Elad Yaakov Winkelstein and civilians Rachel Cohen and Aliza Raiz.

The IDF operation also resulted in the detention of several suspects who are believed to have assisted in the planning and execution of the attack.
