Legal Consequences Loom for Woman Who Tore Passport at Nigerian Airport
Recently, a video circulated on the internet showing a woman tearing her husband’s international passport at Murtala Muhammed Airport. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has now apprehended the woman after confirming the incident depicted in the video.
The woman, Mrs. Favor Igiebor, admitted to tearing the passport and made some confessions. However, she was later allowed to leave the airport with her children without being detained by airport officials.
In an interview, Mrs. Igiebor explained her actions, stating, “My husband controlled my social media accounts and other personal matters. This wasn’t an impulsive act; it was a response to years of distress.”

Mr. Kenneth Udo, an official of the NIS, confirmed the incident on Sunday, August 11. He stated, “The Comptroller General of Immigration, K.N. Nandap, has ordered Mrs. Igiebor to be summoned for further investigation.”
He further explained that Mrs. Igiebor’s actions are in violation of the Immigration Act 2025, which states that deliberately destroying a passport is a serious offense, as detailed in Section 10(b).
