PDP Denies Inviting Goodluck Jonathan for 2027 Presidential Election
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has addressed reports claiming that the party invited Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, who lost to Buhari, to join the forthcoming 2027 presidential election.
The party has denied these claims. During an interview with BBC Hausa, it was stated that the PDP had not taken such actions or even contacted the ex-president.
He said, “The report that the PDP has issued its presidential ticket to former President Goodluck Jonathan or invited him to contest the 2027 presidential election is not true.”
During the interview, I was asked about former President Jonathan, as there were reports of him being urged to run for president. I explained that Jonathan is legally eligible to contest since he is a Nigerian with the right to do so and still has one term remaining. However, I also stated that the PDP has already supported him enough and would not try to convince him to run.
Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), explained that they haven’t discussed the issue with Jonathan yet but noted that they have 12 governors and other capable politicians who can run for president. He also mentioned that Jonathan’s wife recently stated her husband has no intention of running again, as he left nothing behind in the Villa to return for. Therefore, they can’t consider him, as the ticket is for someone who shows interest.
