Previously, on June 3, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) initiated a nationwide strike over the minimum wage issue. The unions had put forward a proposal for a new minimum wage of N494,000, citing inflation and economic hardship, while the federal government countered with an offer of N60,000.

On June 7, the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) declared that a N60,000 minimum wage would be unsustainable.

During the latest tripartite committee meeting, organized labor rejected the government’s revised offer of N62,000 and adjusted their demand to N250,000.
