Some Religious Organizations Are More Corrupt Than Public Offices – EFCC Chairman
The EFCC Boss, Mr. Ola Olukayede of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, made some statements saying that some religious organizations are “more corrupt than we expect,” even more so than public offices in Nigeria.
He made these statements at a leadership conference organized by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) on Friday. He added that the EFCC recently recovered millions from a religious organization.
The EFCC also accused some religious leaders of interfering in affairs that do not concern them. He said religious leaders need to practice what they preach and use their platforms to portray good character.
“Just this last week, I have had cause to recover millions from a religious organization,” the EFCC boss said.
He continued further, “Most pastors we see today, many of you don’t know their source of wealth. We don’t even know if they are doing legitimate business. Just because you are appointed as a pastor, you start behaving like a big man.
“If you want me to show you evidence, I can, but I can tell you there are some religious organizations that are more corrupt than public offices. We even uncovered a religious sect laundering money to sponsor terrorists in January here in Nigeria.”
