U.S. Government Includes Nigeria in $536 Million Humanitarian Aid Package
Congratulations to Nigeria, as the United States Mission has included Nigeria in its $536 million humanitarian aid package announced by the U.S. government for Sub-Saharan Africa. Nigeria will receive a $27 million share of this package.
In a statement issued by the U.S. Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday, the mission stated that this aid is intended to lend a helping hand to vulnerable and less privileged people and communities across the continent. They added that the U.S. government is committed to ensuring that this assistance reaches those in need safely.
According to the U.S. government, the assistance is aimed at addressing the pressing needs of refugees, asylum seekers, and other affected regions.
Richard Mills, the current representative of the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, mentioned: “This assistance will make a real difference in the lives of those most in need in Nigeria and across the continent.”
Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, officially announced the comprehensive aid package, which brings the total U.S. humanitarian assistance to Sub-Saharan Africa in Fiscal Year 2024 to nearly $3.7 billion.
The aid will also focus on crises in areas like the Sahel and support efforts to build long-term solutions, such as the voluntary return of refugees and their integration into communities.
Richard Mills also added: “This $27 million in aid demonstrates the United States’ unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria in addressing humanitarian challenges. We stand with Nigeria in its efforts to provide for vulnerable populations and build resilience against food insecurity and the impacts of climate change.”
All funds will be distributed to those in need through government bodies, including the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, and USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance.
